Are your windows in need of a good cleaning, but every time you try, you end up with streaks and smudges? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Cleaning windows can be a tricky task, but with the right techniques and tools, you can achieve sparkling, streakless windows.

C’mon! Let that sunshine into your home.

We aren’t professional window washers, but do know a thing or two about windows. In this blog post, we’ll provide you with the steps you need to properly clean your windows without leaving streaks.

8 Steps for Streakless Windows

1. First, be sure to gather all the necessary supplies. You need a bucket, mild dish soap or a window cleaning solution, a squeegee, and a microfiber cloth or chamois. It’s important to use the right tools for the job if you want to avoid streaks and smudges.

2. Start by removing any dust, dirt, and debris from the window surface. Use a soft brush or a microfiber cloth to gently wipe away any loose particles. DON’T SKIP THIS STEP. This will help prevent streaking when you clean the windows.

3. Next, mix a small amount of mild dish soap or window cleaning solution with water in a bucket. If you want to try a homemade solution, here’s a recipe. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the window glass and frames. Dip a clean sponge or cloth into the soapy water and wring out any excess liquid.

4. Start at the top of the window and work your way down. Use the soapy sponge or cloth to scrub the glass in a circular motion. Be sure to cover the entire surface of the window, including the edges and corners. For stubborn spots, you can use a razor blade to gently scrape away the tougher grime.

5. Once the window is clean, it’s time to squeegee. Starting at the top of the window, place the squeegee at a slight angle and pull it down in a straight line. Wipe the blade with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or chamois after each pass to avoid streaking.

6. After squeegeeing the entire window, use a dry microfiber cloth or chamois to buff away any remaining water and soap residue. This final step will take care of any remaining streaks and leave your windows sparkling clean.

7. In addition to cleaning the glass, don’t forget to clean the window frames and tracks. Use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe away dirt and debris, and a vacuum with a brush attachment to remove dust and cobwebs from the tracks.

8. Finally, step back and admire your handiwork. That’s right. Beautiful streakless windows!

By following these 8 steps, you can finally have the crystal-clear, streak-free windows you’ve always wanted. As you follow these steps and realize you may need to repair or replace (check out this post for more info), feel free to give us a call or fill out a form.
